The Localizer and Mini-Open Pedicle Screw Insertion

The surgical video demonstrates the use of the Spine Localizer to determine the exact location and length of the paramedian incision for a mini-open pedicle screw fusion case. A partial facetectomy, discectomy, TLIF, and pedicle screw insertion operation through a 3.5 cm paramedial incision is demonsrated.

The precise placement of the skin incision allows the Aesculap Spyder retractor system to be seated in a perfectly “balanced” state. In this state, the retractor is centered on the region of interest, there is no need for table-based fixation of the retractor or 4-blade retraction, and the retractor remains stable throughout the operation, significantly facilitating the surgical steps.
